The Souris' ridings (in Saskatchewan and one in Manitoba) are some of the strongest small-c conservative ridings in the country. I think the fact that the MP here was able to beat Devine, a former preimier, is a sign that he can win against a no-name Liberal or no-name NDPer. When it comes to these things, party names are like brand names, and people here like their MP's "Conservative" not "Presidents Choice Liberal" or "Our Compliments NDP" |

With Grant Devine not running this time around, the Conservatives should win easily. This was only one of two ridings not to elect a single NDP MLA provincially within its boundaries. It also went for right wing parties in every election in last 50 years except 1993. Ed Komarnicki will be going back to Ottawa and may be the next labour minister if the Conservatives win. |
