My father lives in this riding, and it’s perhaps not as right-wing as it once was. Many older people have taken up residence here, some living in their old cottages, others just moving to the cottage area, to get away from Toronto in their golden years. Unlike the stereotype of the bitter conservative old man, most of our modern senior citizens are concerned with social spending. The Liberals will pose a challenge here, but it wont be enough. The Tories have the edge. |

This was a more serious Liberal target in '99 than in '03, believe it or not--an open seat thanks to the Al McLean 'scandal', and with Midland's mayor as the candidate. Now, it's an ex-Green Liberal in the running (she ran in Oakville federally in '06). Somehow, given the fate of other Greens-turned-Liberals (notably Tom Manley in SDSG), I'd approach that fact with trepidation. |

Even though Garfield Dunlop is one of the more right wing members, he seems to have little trouble winning here no matter how well his party does. Although this has areas like Penetanguishene that generally go Liberal, Orillia and Oro-Medonte easily cancel this out. |
