The 2004 election here in Prince George-Peace River was a runaway victory for Conservative Jay Hill. As we all know, the Peace River region is one of the most Conservative regions in BC, and the results exist to prove it. The tories won here by 14,000 votes. Prince George is not as Conservative, but even it too will go tory blue. It went for the BC Liberals in the 2005 election, and they are right winged, and so are the tories. |

Provincially, the BC Reform party has had strength here. Some in this riding have wanted to start a party that would advocate the peace river area joining Alberta. This is, de facto, an alberta riding, and like the other alberta ridings, the tory candidate will win. The tory candidate here is Jay Hill, Opposition house leader, one of the most important positions in the commons. He sill easily be re-elected, without worry. |

This riding is really more Albertan than British Columbian. That means the most right wing party on the ballot will win. The 2 seats the BC Reform Party won in 1996 were both in this riding and notwithstanding the 1968 election, right wing parties have always won with large majorities. Jay Hill will be returning to Ottawa. The question is will he be Opposition House Leader or Government House Leader. I hope the latter turns out to be true. |
