Notable for the New Democrats coming within 12 votes of their only second-place finish in Alberta (and their first such finish since 1988), for whatever reason. (Perhaps because btw/Jasper and the forest industry, Yellowhead has more of a "BC Interior" character than the typical Alberta riding?) Of course, that's way down at 11 1/2%, and Rob Merrifield was over 57 points above that, ReformAlliancey quirks and all. |

even with FIVE TIMES the vote, neither the Librals nor NDP could have beat the tories in this, Joe Clark's old riding. Preson Manning even ran here in 1988. Merrifield does not matter here, the tories could run a crash test dummy in a blue tie and he would still be elected with a huge majoirty. |
