| There's been some talk in Birmingham about Erdington going Tory. Sion Simon's antics have depressed the Labour vote, and the Conservatives have made progress in local elections. The gap is probably too big to bridge, but expect a shockingly narrow victory for Labour here, perhaps under 3,000. |

Harman's husband to contest seat Published: 2010/02/26 21:53:51 GMT © BBC MMX Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman's husband has been chosen to contest a Birmingham seat at the next general election, the party has announced. Party treasurer Jack Dromey is to stand for the Erdington seat vacated by Sion Simon who stood down earlier this month to be Birmingham's first elected mayor. Mr Dromey is currently the deputy general secretary for the Unite union. He said he was ‘honoured’ to be chosen and had been working for social justice in the city for the past 25 years. Labour held Erdington with a majority of 9,575 in the last general election. The Conservative Party has chosen Robert Alden as their prospective parliamentary candidate (PPC) for Erdington. |
