Labour had never held a seat in West Sussex before the gain of Crawley in 1997 and despite effectively having the force of history against it, it is a very likely hold for Labour this time. Labour remains dominant in local elections and easily held the seat in the 1999 Euros. It would be a major upset if the Tories won back Crawley this time.
