| It's often said that personalities matter more than parties in determining voting patterns in the Scottish highlands -- that said, though, Orkney & Shetland have been consistently Liberal for something like 50 years now, and the LibDems hold both seats in the Scottish parliament. I doubt that Wallace would have stood aside without finding a suitable replacement. LibDem hold. |

| Your right - it has been said that personalities rather than parties determine the results in the Highlands - but the Scottish Parliament results in 99 undermined that theory. The Lib Dems won every seat in the Highlands they hold at westminster and in none of them was the sitting MP standing for the Scottish parliament. |
