It is amazing that there was a Conservative MP here as recently as 1992; even the most optimistic Tory wouldn't think it would revert this time and probably never. Labour have led here in every mid-term test of opinion and the seat has a high concentration of ethnic minority voters. Although Barbara Roche's term as Home Office immigration minister hasn't won her universal respect or popularity, people aren't going to vote Tory against her. If the Socialist Alliance stand a candidate here they might well save their deposit and poll respectably but not come anywhere near dislodging Roche, or taking second place. |
