Blondin's always been the big Liberal player in the North--even to the point of having purported leadership potential. While her star may not shine so brightly now, she remains fundamentally safe--though not without upset potential, even from the Alliance...

The territories tend to stay with the government - and are especially fond of Liberals. This set will stay Liberal.

Few areas were as vehemently opposed to the Gun control laws and changes in the FAC situation than the natives and other groups in Western Arctic. Reform came second here in 1997. Look for the incumbant to be unseated by either the CA, or, less likely, the NDP

Ethel Blondin is the undisputed queen of the north. Total slam-dunk.

And few groups are more opposed to the Canadian Alliance than aboriginal people. Look for this area which is heavily dependant on assistance from Ottawa, to remain Liberal.

Bruce McLauchlin is a former Minister of Health and Social Services and has a real shot in this riding. He is well respected and has been taking the incumbent for a rough ride. The people of Yelloknife are just waiting for an escuse to get rid of her and McLauchlin just might be it.
