Barring any last minute surge by the Greens or Liberals, this should remain in NDP hands. The NDP has some concerns about a split in this riding but many past supporters are voting Green based on dissatisfaction with the current Premier or an attempt to block the NDP as was done in ridings to the south in past elections. That may work in other ridings but not here. The incumbent is well-liked although there have been some alleged shenanigans that may tarnish his reputation post-ballot.

I find Doug Routley a bit sneaky as a MLA. Doug was MLA for Nanaimo North Cowichan before part of it became a new riding called the Cowichan Valley riding.
Doug moved to Cedar, B.C. from Duncan, B.C. to live in the Nanaimo North Cowichan now that his home in Duncan became the Cowichan Valley riding. Right after the election was over, Doug moved back to downtown Duncan. Talks in the legislature about living in Nanaimo with his friends and neighbours but lives in Duncan.
I guess both sides of the legislature play games with MLA expenses, because I cannot get an answer on one of Doug Routley expense claims. Everything is hush, hush.
In 2013, the August long weekend, Doug claimed $1,043.86 in expenses. Mileage $96.20, MLA meals for 3 days per diem, $183.00, ferry $66.75 going over, $135.15 coming back, 2 days parking, $99.10, and 2 days accommodation $463.66.
Doug was the only one MLA out of 85 making a expense claim.
What puzzles me is who did he bring back on the ferry with him.
All I ask for is verification, was this legit expenses or he pulled a fast one as it being personal expense.
Have tried everything to get an answer. Even the B.C. media people cannot get an answer.
I just want to know if I am correct or wrong.

Even if the BCL decide to be bold and make a play for a Nanaimo riding, it will be the other one. The margin here is too big and it isn't worth the gamble to stretch resources that thin.

I'd have to think Doug Routley is the favorite here with the polls being almost identical to what they were last time. If things chance though, it's not out of the realm that the Liberals take this seat.
