Let's remember that this isn't just the successor to the Martels' riding, it's the successor to Floyd Laughren's riding as well, i.e. it's superduper ONDP bedrock in a location where, well, bedrock is practically the economic base. Once in a while, whether due to perceived Dipper weakess or open seatness, Nickel Belt may be supertargeted into marginality--but definitely not now; if the ONDP is reduced to 2001 BC NDP levels, France Gelinas will be half of the last pair.

France Gelinas will easily win again in this long time NDP district. It doesn't matter how the provincial campaign does, she will win on her name alone. Gelinas is very popular everywhere in the riding. She is known for being hard-working and staying on top of issues in Nickel Belt. Probably the safest NDP seat in Northern Ontario right now.

Is a fairly safe riding for the Ontario ndp and current mpp Frances Gelinas , been that way for a while . can't see the other parties making much progress in this riding .

NDP will be a lock here. Gelinas a strong MPP, plus the history of NDP support in the riding (eg: Laughren, Rodriguez). Demographics actually favour the Liberals, but Gelinas will be too strong a candidate to overcome.

The Nickel Belt has consistently voted NDP provincially since the early 70s. France Gelinas is a vocal northern MPP, and I can't see her losing this seat anytime soon.
