Actually Gilbert Barette who won this seat for the Liberals in a by-election is their candidate this election, hed need to increase his vote a fair bit and hope for a perfect NDP/BQ split on the left and the CPC not gaining a whole lot to win, hell probably be fighting it out with the CPC for 2nd. So the BQ are probably set to win once more comfortably. |

Represented at one time by one of the most promising young figures in the BQ caucus, Pierre Brien--until he jumped ship to run as a provincial Adequiste in 2003 (i.e. one election too early, and in the wrong geography, besides). Sure, CPC could have a chance here, in a westward-extension-of-the-Saguenay way--but only if Pierre Brien made good on his ADQ candidacy by coming back as a federal Tory... |

A minor correction to what Nick wrote, in 2003 the former riding of Temiscamingue elected a Liberal in a byelection. This was shortly after Paul Martin's ascension to prime minister and when there was talk of the Liberals getting over 200 seats. Then Gomery happened and...well..the rest is history. Until the CPC look poised to get 200 seats this will stay BQ. |

The Abitibi region has always voted Bloc, and even provincially the ADQ sweep was unable to penetrate here. This classic separatist region will likely continue the trend by electing another separatist. |

Save a 2003 by-election victory for the Liberals this riding has gone to the Bloc since their inception into the Canadian political landscape and it probably won't change this election. |
