With a massive 15,000 majority, it would be a bit of a shock if Labour didn't hold Sheffield Heeley this time. However it will be interesting to see what happens to the Lib Dems and the Tories. The Tories were in a reasonable second position in 1992 but crashed to third in 1997. Since then, things have not really picked up for them at local elections. The Lib Dems, meanwhile, have been pretty successful, winning control of Sheffield Ciy Council, and it will be interesting to see whether they manage to consolidate their good second-placing last time (their vote actually increased here in 1997 - fairly rare in an inner city seat where they didn't do that badly in 1992). |
