This seat in Labour's South Wales stronghold did vote Tory once - for local candidate Peter Hubbard-Miles in Margaret Thatcher's landslide year of 1983. However, Win Griffiths elbowed out Hubbard-Miles easily in 1987 (when the Tories lost other shock gains in Wales such as Cardiff West) and his majority should be unassailable for the time being.
