It now looks like reasonably safe Mancunian Labour stuff, but Stretford & Urmston contains the forlorn ghost of Davyhulme, the longtime electoral home for the younger Winston Churchill. Having lost his seat and any Tory advantage through redistribution, Churchill opted to retire in 1997. Currently, an icon of quite different calibre is in the running here--calendar model/tabloid fixture Jordan, running on an independent "Free Plastic Surgery for All" ticket. Jennie Jerome must be turning in her grave...
