This constituency is very rich and very, very Tory. There is a village here where they refuse to have street lights because it lowers the tone of the area, and poverty in a place like this is only having one Mercedes S-class per household. There is a split between old money and nouveaux riches (several Manchester United players live in the seat) but politically there's no split - everybody's a Tory! Nicholas Winterton has held this seat for thirty years and if he lasts long enough can expect to hold it for another thirty. |
