A new seat created at the last election, but based around the abolished Tory marginal of Westminster North. Labour gave it the full 'key seat' treatment and local activists warned it was a low-swing area that could be a tougher nut to crack than the numbers suggested. They must surely have been surprised how effortlessly they won on the night, outpolling the Tories by more than two to one. The stark social divide here means that a lot comes down to turnout rather than swing voters. Karen Buck's 15000 majority is almost certainly safe but Labour should make every effort to get their voters to the polls and not be complacent. |
