An East End Labour stronghold that stayed Labour even in the dark days of the eighties when London Labour was under loony left control. Labour won every seat on Newham Council in 1998. Labour outpolled the Tories by 2-and-a-half to one even in Euro election '99 but has had a few close shaves in Council byelections since. About 45% ethnic minority. Junior Treasury Minister Stephen Timms will win big. |
