It would take a mighty large shift in order to knock popular Alliance MP Deborah Grey out of the victor's chair in Edmonton North. High-profile campaigns by both the Liberals and New Democrats in 1997 couldn't get the job done at a time when she was new to the riding, and now that she's established herself there, expect her to be a permanent fixture.

In a supremely confident Trojan horse move, Reform party legend Deb Grey, who lost her rural bastion thru redistribution, chose in '97 a dodgy "Redmonton" riding which would have been notionally Liberal in '93--and it sure as heck worked; in fact, it may have been one of the critical moves to confirm that Reform was indeed an egalitarian major-player coalition rather than a mere redneckish one-shot. Only one small but inspired step to Alliance dreams, and Edmonton North's voters'll be thanking her...

The big slab of bacon is going back to the house. (While the guy who called her a big slab of bacon continues to sit on the sidelines whining about how no one returns his calls.)
